Even friends who live elsewhere in Switzerland sometimes tell me that they envy Lucerne. They feel that their towns do not have the same combination of beautiful lakes, dramatic mountains, and easy access to countless hiking trails.
就连居住在瑞士其他地方的朋友，有时也会告诉我他们羡慕卢塞恩。在他们看来，自己所在的城市没有相同的组合——美丽的湖泊、壮观的山脉，以及通往无数徒步路线的便利入口。
Personally, I think anyone living in Switzerland is already incredibly fortunate, regardless of where they live. Every region has its own unique charm. Still, if I had the privilege of choosing one city that best represents Switzerland in my mind, it would be Lucerne.

To me, Lucerne is the heart of Switzerland.

Every summer, buses filled with visitors from around the world arrive at Leuenplatz and Schwanenplatz. Travelers walk through the Old Town, cross Chapel Bridge, admire the Lion Monument, take photos along the lake, and then continue their journey to the next destination.
每个夏天，满载着来自世界各地游客的旅游巴士陆续抵达狮子广场和天鹅广场。旅行者们穿行于老城，走过卡佩尔桥，驻足欣赏垂死狮子纪念碑，在湖边留下合影，然后继续前往下一个目的地。
Lucerne is undoubtedly beautiful at first sight. The historic old town, the crystal-clear lake, and the surrounding mountains create exactly the kind of scenery many people imagine when they think of Switzerland.

Yet most visitors experience only a surprisingly small part of Lucerne.

Many people tell me that they have already explored Lucerne because they spent a few hours in the city and perhaps took a day trip to Rigi. And yes, Rigi is beautiful. But if you have a little more time, and if you allow yourself to slow down, you may discover that Lucerne offers something deeper than the immediate impact of Alpine scenery.

Within a short distance, you can walk through a medieval old town, board a boat on the lake, explore a quiet village, or find yourself hiking in the Alps. Few places combine these experiences so naturally.

One of the reasons I enjoy living in Lucerne is that it serves as an ideal base for exploring Central Switzerland. Some of the most beautiful destinations in the region are less than an hour away, making it possible to experience lakes, mountains, alpine villages, and hiking trails without spending much time on transportation.

2 Küssnacht am Rigi 屈斯纳赫特
A charming lakeside town that showcases the slower rhythm of Central Switzerland. The journey there is just as rewarding as the destination itself, with beautiful lakeside scenery and a glimpse into everyday Swiss life beyond the tourist hotspots.

3 Hergiswil 赫尔吉斯维尔
Nestled between the lake and the mountains, Hergiswil combines beautiful scenery with an authentic local atmosphere. Compared with central Lucerne, it feels quieter and more relaxed while still offering stunning views of both the lake and Mount Pilatus.
赫尔吉斯维尔坐落于湖泊与山脉之间，将美丽的风景与真实的本地氛围融为一体。与卢塞恩市中心相比，这里更加宁静从容，却依然能欣赏到湖泊与皮拉图斯山的壮丽景色。

Perched high above Lake Lucerne, Bürgenstock offers spectacular panoramic views, scenic walking trails, and one of the most iconic perspectives of the lake. It is a perfect place to appreciate the dramatic landscape of Central Switzerland.

6 Engelberg 英格尔堡
Most visitors know Engelberg because of Titlis, but the entire valley deserves attention. Areas such as Brunni and Ristis offer beautiful hiking opportunities, alpine meadows, and mountain scenery that can be enjoyed at a much slower pace than the famous summit attractions.

8 Stoos Stoos

Final Thoughts 结语
For many travelers, Lucerne is a place to spend a few hours before moving on to the next destination. For me, it has been much more than that.

It is a city where mountains, lakes, villages, and daily life come together in a way that feels uniquely Swiss. The famous landmarks are certainly worth seeing, but some of the most memorable experiences begin when you venture a little farther and allow yourself to slow down.
这是一座让山脉、湖泊、村庄与日常生活以一种独特瑞士方式融为一体的城市。那些著名的地标当然值得一看，但真正令人难忘的体验，往往从你走得稍远一些、愿意放慢脚步时才开始。
Switzerland offers countless beautiful destinations, and everyone will have their own favourite. But after several years of living here, if someone asked me which city feels like the heart of Switzerland, my answer would still be Lucerne.
